As the least loved astrological transit, Mercury retrograde is synonymous with stress, nostalgia, communication breakdowns and relationship resurrections.
It’s enough to make anyone want to eat their feelings.
“Mercury Retrograde makes us crave comfort food for emotional grounding and a quick dopamine boost. With studies showing that 45% of people turn to food for comfort, the upcoming retrograde can turn into a real munchfest,” experts from Tastewise, a leading food intelligence platform, told The Post.
And we, as a nation, are a hungry and suspicious people. Earlier research found that Americans hold such a special place for comfort foods and nostalgic childhood dishes that they would even name their kid after their favorite for a lifetime supply of it.
Thirty-five percent would name their kid “Pizza” in exchange for a lifetime supply, 28 percent would name their kid “Mozz Stick,” and 27 percent “Ice Cream.”
Bless this mess, indeed.

Mac and cheese tops the list of preferred comfrot food with 20% of survey participants admitting that the carbohydrate classic is their go to for retrograde relief.
“No matter how the styles may differ – baked and bubbling in the South or truffle-topped in LA – for Americans, mac & cheese is the edible equivalent of a warm hug after a looong day.”
Breakfast Plate
Nearly 20% of those surveyed admitted to craving this greasy spoon melange of eggy, pancakes and bacon.
“Don’t we all remember what a slow Sunday morning in your mom’s kitchen tastes like? Exactly like this.”
Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup
When Mercury retrogrades unsettles us, nothing feels safer than this marriage of roasted nightshade and cheese goo.
A previous study established that America’s ultimate grilled cheese uses white bread, is cut into triangles, and layers two different kinds of cheese.
According to the same study, eight in 10 Americans (84%) admitted that biting into a grilled cheese sandwich with the perfect crispy crunch on the outside and gooey, cheesy blend on the inside is one of their favorite feelings in the whole world.

Loaded baked potatoes are the comfort food of choice for a staggering 13% of Americans.
