NASCAR driver Greg Biffle’s last post was a touching video surprising his wife with a “date night” just one week before they were killed alongside their two children and three family friends in a horrific plane crash.
The video, posted on Biffle’s Youtube page on Thursday last week, is titled “Surprised Wife with Date Night” — with the real surprise for wife Cristina being that it’s a less-than-romantic trip to Indianapolis for the annual Performance Racing Industry convention.
“So when you said we were going on a date night, I didn’t expect to go to a tradeshow,” Cristina teased her hubby, smiling.
The couple beams throughout the vlog-style video as they check out cars, test new racing technology and chat with friends before going out for dinner.
“Night out on the town here in Indy,” Biffle says as they leave the show.
“Let’s do it. Little party animal over here,” he adds, as the camera cuts to Cristina giving a thumbs-up.
Biffle, his wife and his two children — daughter Emma, 14, from Biffle’s first marriage, and son Ryder, 5 — were killed when the race car driver’s small Cessna 500 private plane crashed and burst into flames at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina Thursday morning.
Family friends Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton and Dutton’s son, Jack, were also onboard and all died.
All seven were headed to Florida for a birthday trip, according to family members. Biffle would have turned 56 on Tuesday.
Known fondly by his fans as “Biff,” the Washington native enjoyed a strong racing career that earned him a NASCAR Hall of Fame nomination and a spot on NASCAR’s list of its 75 greatest drivers.
He was also known for his humanitarian work, including flying his own helicopter to rescue people stranded in western North Carolina during Hurricane Helene last year.
Tributes poured in the comment section of the Youtube video after his death Thursday.
“RIP Biffle family…thanks for video’s like this that will live on forever,” one user wrote.
“The fact this was his last video with his wife… man. Big part of my childhood,” another fan commented.
“Rest in peace buddy. You and your family made all smile. We miss you already,” a commenter posted.
It’s unclear what caused the wreck. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
