Buckle up, my babies, we’re in the throes of eclipse season, where nothing is sacred, and no one is safe.

In the early hours of March 3, 2026, we’ll be under the skies and the influence of a total lunar Blood Moon eclipse at 12° Virgo.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth casts its shadow completely over a full moon.

On March 3, totality, AKA when the moon is fully immersed in Earth’s shadow, will last 58 minutes, from 6:04 a.m. EST to 7:02 a.m. EST.

2026 Blood Moon eclipse

The eclipse will be best viewed from the western half of North America, Australia, and the Pacific.

However, whether we see the eclipse or not, we will all feel the fallout.

“Eclipses always come in pairs. They provide us with a month full of absolute disruptions to our regularly scheduled solar and lunar programming,” Rachel Ruth Tate, a certified astrologer at Casinos Analyzer, told The Post.

“A couple of weeks back, we experienced the first eclipse in a new cycle in Aquarius, and now, it is bookended by the last eclipse of this current cycle in Virgo on March 3rd,” she added.

This latest eclipse takes place near the South Node, symbolizing the past and ritual release, allowing us to shed the dead before springtime cometh.

Apropos of letting go and fresh flow, a total lunar eclipse is also known by the goth handle ‘blood moon.’

Blood moon: Why does the moon turn red during a lunar eclipse?

During a total lunar eclipse, the only light that reaches the moon must pass through Earth’s atmosphere. As the sun’s rays pass through that layer, they take on a reddish hue.

The intensity of said red depends on atmospheric conditions; more dust and clouds mean a deeper red.

Mercury Retrograde rules this eclipse

Because this eclipse is eclipsing in Virgo, a sign ruled by Mercury, Mercury is considered the ruler of this lunar occasion, and that trash-talking planet of the mind and the mouth is currently retrograde in the disorienting storm drain of Pisces.

According to Tate, this retrograde influence asks us “to suspend our disbelief temporarily and go with the flow, even if that flow is full of swirls and eddies and seems to be taking us in a totally unknown direction.”

Buy the ticket, take the ride, folks.

Eclipses amplify the effects of a full moon and the themes associated with the sign the moon falls in.

This eclipse falls along the Virgo-Pisces axis, highlighting the tension between practicality and intuition, structure and fluidity.

In essence, Pisces mainlines inspiration and Virgo’s grounds idealism in the soil of pragmatism.

Earth gives structure to the imagination of water, lending scaffolding to dreamscapes. This is the axis on which the practical and the poetic consort.

On and around the eclipse, our desire for perfection and order may clash with our need for surrender and creativity.

Virgo gets a bad rep for being the resident pedant of the zodiac, but the sign’s true purpose is more in line with ritual purification, asking us to consider what can be pruned so that we might prosper.

The ultimate lesson of Virgo is to integrate our mental, physical, and spiritual energies into a single force for depth and growth.

“You are more than just allowed to shift stubborn outmoded paradigms during this lunation. You are encouraged to do so. Trust, have faith, listen, and expect to learn something,” shared Tate.

Questions this eclipse forces people to ask themselves:

  • What in your world is up for mental review?
  • What doesn’t make sense for you anymore?
  • What is the most graceful way to release commitments that no longer serve your highest good?

We’re all influenced by lunar cycles, but the following signs will feel the effects of this eclipse most acutely.

For Virgo folks, this eclipse will powerfully affect their first house of identity and perception.

“You’ve been trying to DIY a new version of yourself for months, but this transit is exposing the corners you cut. You can’t skip the integration phase anymore,” astrologer Babs Cheung, aka The Astro Translator, told The Post.

“You’re being asked to step into a new role, but you can’t do it while carrying broken, outdated systems of your old identity. It’s time to clean out your closet and only keep the items that best suit the new you,” Cheung said.

Because the first house rules the physical form, Virgos are encouraged to be very careful with their bodies. Think slow movement, water, and fiber. Steer clear of extremes.

“Happy Birthday, Pisces, your gift is a pile of dirty laundry,” said Cheung.

“The eclipse is hitting your 7th house of partnerships, and that lumpy rug you’ve been sweeping your ire under is officially a tripping hazard. All the messiness you tried to romanticize or ignore is being dragged into the light.”

She emphasised that this is not meant to be a pretty process for fish folks.

“Since Mercury is retrograde in your sign, this is the ultimate ‘Air Out Your Grievances’ tour. Don’t be afraid to be a villain if it means finally getting the floor clean,” Cheung said.

Get to sweeping.

Cheung notes that for Libras, the Virgo eclipse hits their twelfth house of endings, undoing, hidden enemies, and the unconscious mind.

Hot tip: the hidden enemy is probably you.

“Shadow work is no longer optional. This isn’t just about a bad mood; It’s hard to let others witness the messes you’ve tucked away (the 12th house rules over therapy), but the lights are being flicked on, giving you a golden opportunity to purge,” said Cheung.

“Accountability starts in the mirror when you are honest with yourself. No amount of rationalizing will help you reach the next level. You need a true assessment.”

Rituals for the lunar eclipse

Eclipses are no time to call in intentions or perform full moon rituals. On this amplified full moon, you are cordially invited to do nothing but stay hydrated, hopeful, and indoors.

However, a few practices can prime you to receive the lessons of this lunation and keep the baddies at bay.

  • Ground yourself by walking barefoot in nature or by gardening, allowing the body’s work to mirror the processes of the sky.
  • Practice stream of consciousness journaling. On or around the eclipse, put ink to the page and let it bleed. Just as the eclipse cannot be controlled, try to let the words come without hesitation, judgment, or the need to make sense. Think of this as purge poetry.
  • If you feel anxious or energetically attacked, you can likewise purge through smoke cleansing, a salt bath, or a shower. As the water surrounds you, imagine all the negative energy in your body and auric field being emptied. Let that s–t go down the drain and see itself right out of your bright and beautiful life.
