LG has unveiled its first Micro RGB TV range, the MRGB95, which promises better color reproduction than ever, with models starting at $5,000.

The LG Micro RGB evo is a premium, large-screen TV available in 75-inch, 86-inch, and 100-inch models. The Micro RGB backlight, made up of miniature red, green and blue LEDs, promises over a billion colors with 100% of the high-end BT.2020 color space. Most TVs use a color filter to produce color, sometimes with Quantum Dots, but an RGB backlight can produce even more tones.

The company says the TV will offer improved contrast with its Micro Dimming Ultra system, which features more than 1,000 dimming zones. However, this is still lower than competitors like the TCL QM8L with 4,000 zones.

The LG Micro RGB evo also includes LG’s personalized webOS platform, which includes Voice ID, AI Picture/Sound Wizard and a choice of AI chatbots.

LG’s bread and butter is still its OLED range, but the new TVs let the company join the “buzzy” MicroRGB TV trend. While most manufacturers now offer MicroRGB TVs, Sony hopes to set itself apart with its forthcoming True RGB backlit TVs based on its own Triluminos technology.

Pre-orders of the LG Micro RGB evo are available now, while the TVs are expected to arrive in May.
