A Kansas State University junior fell 70 feet from an overpass in a desperate bid to avoid being hit by a truck – and remarkably she survived.
Animal science student Kyra Kinnison, 21, faced being mowed down by the truck when she jumped backwards, accidentally falling off a bridge on Kansas’ Highway 18 on Friday night, her pal revealed in a GoFundMe fundraiser.
Kinnison and her boyfriend, Dalten Grabast, were driving in separate cars and heading to Salinas but were stopped in their tracks near Ogden when a large insulation pallet fell from a truck, The Kansas State Collegian, reported.
“[Kinnison’s boyfriend] swerved around it and stopped,” fellow K-State student Sara Celeen, who created the fundraiser, told WIBW.
“[Kyra] pulled over to the side of the road, and then a vehicle crashed into his vehicle.”
A crash unfolded in front of the couple – and Kinnison risked being hit by a truck barrelling down the highway.
She fell backwards, plunged some 70 feet, and hit a tree, leaving her with fractures to her back, pelvis, and tailbone.
Celeen, a dairy science senior, created a fundraiser for Kinnison and revealed Tuesday her pal “is doing very well for someone who fell 70 feet.”
Kinnison had surgery to realign her hips and Celeen shared a picture of the two girls smiling.
Celeen is relieved her friend’s injuries weren’t more serious.
“I’m just glad she’s not paralyzed for life,” she told WIBW.
“There was really a guardian angel out there, looking out for her.”
Kinnison is not the only student who has survived a horrifying fall recently.
Kristin Sargent, a University of Georgia senior, fell from the eighth floor of an apartment building in Athens, Georgia, while she was dancing on a couch — but remarkably survived the plunge.
The 21-year-old finance and marketing student fell after the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 41-13 on Saturday.
