A female driver was killed and her passenger seriously injured after they were tossed from a Tesla that flipped and then burst into flames on the FDR in Manhattan early Tuesday, cops said.
The Tesla struck a guard rail and flipped on the FDR Drive near 70th Street on the Upper East Side just after 2:30 a.m., the NYPD said — with photos showing huge chunks of the electric vehicle scattered across the road.
Both the woman and her 26-year-old passenger were ejected from the car, which burst into flames.
The female driver, who hasn’t yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The male survived the impact but was rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell where he remains in a stable condition, according to authorities.
Police are still probing the cause of the fiery wreck. It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver was speeding at the time.
All northbound FDR Drive lanes were shut for several miles as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames.
