Apple indicated online that it will release iOS 18.4 in April, and it could bring a lot of new features to your iPhone, like ambient sounds controls and priority notifications with Apple Intelligence. But before Apple releases that update, you should update to iOS 18.3.1 immediately.
Apple released the update on Feb. 10, and the tech company said it patches an issue that might have been actively exploited in an “extremely sophisticated attack.” Therefore, everyone should download the update now.
You can download the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update, tapping Update Now and following the prompts on your screen.
An Expert’s Guide to iOS 18
According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 18.3.1 patches a security issue where a third-party could disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device.
When enabled, USB Restricted Mode prevents USB accessories from connecting to your iPhone via the Lightning port if it’s been locked for more than an hour. According to NordVPN, this feature can help prevent others from accessing your data, and it can block hacking tools that connect to your Lightning port.
Apple said this issue might have been used against specific individuals. While you may not be the intended target, you should still download the update now to ensure you have the most protection available for you and your data.
