A Denver man who shot and killed his ex-lover, strangled her son, and abducted her grandson has learned his fate and will spend the next 60 years behind bars, according to a release.
Clemente Flores-Hernandez, 45, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree assault Tuesday for the Feb. 24 2023 murder of Karol Bedoya at her Denver, Co., home, according to a news release from Denver District Attorney John Walsh.
Bedoya, 44, was sitting on her living room couch with her two-year-old grandson when Flores-Hernandez burst into the northeast Denver home and fired four shots —- killing her on the spot, the release stated.
The murderer and the victim were in an intimate relationship for over ten years, the DA stated.
After hearing the gunshots, the victim’s adult son ran up from the home’s basement and confronted the 45-year-old assailant — but Flores-Hernandez got the better of the confrontation, choking the avenging son unconscious during a struggle for the firearm.
The son said that Flores-Hernandez fired the weapon at him multiple times during the struggle, the Daily Mail reported citing local media.
The depraved brute then grabbed the 2-year-old child and fled the scene in a car.
Flores-Hernandez led Colorado State Patrol and Adams County Sheriff’s Department on a high-speed chase for 30 miles before being stopped on the I-70, according to the release.
The young boy was uninjured during the abduction, the DA wrote.
“Karol Bedoya’s murder is yet another terrible reminder of the tragic toll domestic violence takes on our community and our families,” Walsh wrote in the release.
We hope that today’s guilty plea and sentence provide some measure of comfort to Karol’s family and friends,” he added.
Flores-Hernandez was sentenced to 48-years in prison for the second-degree murder charge and 12 years for the assault charge, according to the Denver Post.
