European People’s Party gathers for congress in Valencia

The great and the good of the European People’s Party are congregating in Valencia for the party’s annual congress, six months after the city was hit by devastating floods.

Later MEP Manfred Weber will be elected president in an uncontested process. In an interview with Euronews ahead of the congress, Weber warned of an authoritarian wave in Europe, pledging never to cooperate with far-right parties like France’s National Rally or Germany’s AfD, whom he accused of threatening European unity and democratic values.

Meanwhile a large demonstration – postponed due to the historic electricity outage – has been arranged for Tuesday to call for the resignation of the President of the Valencian Community Carlos Mazón, for his management of the floods of October 29.
