A 36-year old woman was shot in the head and killed in Brooklyn Wednesday night, police said.

The victim was near the corner of Carlton Avenue and Pacific Avenue in Prospect Heights at 10:22 p.m. when the gunman opened fire and struck her in the head, according to the NYPD.

It is unclear whether the woman was the intended target, or whether she was an innocent bystander, police said.

Police received a call for shots fired and responding officers found the woman on the street.

The gunman fled into the night and remains at large, cops said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting took place just a third of a mile, about a five minute walk, from the Barclays Center where the NBA was holding its draft on Wednesday night.

The fatal shooting was the second murder this year in the confines of the 78th Precinct, according to police statistics.
