Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday morning after a night out celebrating his birthday when police found a firearm in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Los Angeles, according to authorities.

The 35-year-old artist, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in a vehicle cops pulled over around 2:30 a.m. in Melrose, the Los Angeles Police Department told NBC Los Angeles.

Officers spotted a gun inside the vehicle and later arrested Way on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

It’s not yet clear why the car was stopped.

Way was out late celebrating his birthday at Poppy, a club in West Hollywood, on Saturday night before his arrest, according to Instagram posts.

“I don’t need no security,” he posted in a video of himself on the crowded club dance floor.

The rapper had turned 35, days earlier on Monday.

Way was previously arrested for carrying a loaded gun during a traffic stop in January 2014, TMZ reported at the time.

In 2011, the “Crank That” singer was also booked during a traffic stop in Georgia, where marijuana, cash, and guns were found in a car he was riding in. He was booked on felony charges alongside four others, the Los Angeles Times previously reported.

In April, a jury slapped him with a $4.25 million verdict for sexual assault claims waged by a woman he used to live with, according to Courthouse News.

It’s not immediately known if the musician has been released or has retained legal representation.

The LAPD did not respond to the Post’s request for comment by the time of publication.
