NYPD detective shot and wounded on Queens expressway during morning rush, cops say

An NYPD detective was shot and wounded on a Queens expressway during the Friday morning rush, cops and sources said.

The detective — who is assigned to the department’s Queens North Warrants Squad — was shot in the leg and arm around 8:50 a.m. on the Whitestone Expressway near 22nd Road, according to authorities and law enforcement sources.

He was rushed in a police vehicle to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he is conscious and alert with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting appeared to have erupted when narcotics detectives heading back to their command after serving a warrant encountered a robbery and carjacking in progress, the sources said.

A person of interest was taken into custody, according to the sources.
