Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani arrived at Ground Zero for the annual 9/11 memorial ceremony on Thursday morning in a wheelchair and large body brace, his first public appearance in the week after he was in a serious car crash in New Hampshire.
Giuliani, who was the Big Apple’s mayor on Sept. 11th, pushed through the pain and joined the hordes of mourners who flocked to the lower Manhattan site for the annual remembrance of the 24th anniversary of the attacks.
The former mayor was seen smiling and shaking hands with officials, including New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and FBI Director Kash Patel.
Giuliani, 81, was hospitalized for days after he suffered a fractured vertebrae after he and advisor Ted Goodman were rear-ended by a 19-year-old girl on Aug. 30 on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire.
“I got terrible injuries but I would have been killed if I didn’t have my seatbelt on,” Giuliani said on his show, “The Rudy Giuliani Show,” last week while wearing the brace.
Thursday’s solemn ceremony includes six moments of silence to note the key times of the attacks — including when both World Trade Center towers were struck and collapsed, and the times of the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93.
A total of nearly 3,000 people were killed during the attacks.
