3 dead, 8 injured after gunman opens fire on crowd at dockside NC restaurant — suspect flees on vessel

Numerous shots were fired from a passing boat into a crowded dockside North Carolina restaurant on Saturday night in a shooting that killed three people and left some eight injured, according to reports.

Officials said the unidentified vessel pulled up to the American Fish Company restaurant in Southport Yacht Basin at around 9:30 p.m. and opened fire into the crowd of unsuspecting diners, according to the Star News.

The boat then took off up the Intracoastal Waterway with no suspects having been captured as of 10:30 p.m., according to City Manager Noah Saldo, the Star News reported.

Three people were killed and eight others were injured, the Star News reported, citing city officials.

One person of interest is being questioned in relation to the deadly incident, the report stated.

Authorities declared an “active shooter” situation and warned all residents to stay in their homes and report any suspicious activity, according to a City of Southport Facebook post.

American Fish Company bills itself as one of Southport’s “favorite hangouts” and often features live music, including on Saturday when band “Bacon Grease” which was scheduled to perform from 7 to 10 p.m., according to the restaurant’s Instagram page.
