The new Bundesliga season gets underway on Friday with a mouth-watering clash between defending champ Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.
Having won back the Meisterschale from Bayer Leverkusen in Vincent Kompany’s first season in charge, Bayern comes into this season opener looking in good shape. Die Roten beat Stuttgart 2-1 in last Saturday’s Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, with goals from new signing Luis Díaz and last season’s top scorer Harry Kane.
Leipzig, meanwhile, is looking to get off to a good start after a hugely disappointing campaign last term that saw them finish in a lowly 7th. A hefty $105 million has been shelled out on signings this summer, but new head coach Ole Werner looks likely to have to make do without key midfielder Xavi Simons. The Dutch star looks set to follow striker Benjamin Šeško to England before the end of the transfer window.
Bayern Munich takes on RB Leipzig on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Allianz Arena. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CET local time in Germany, making it a 7:30 p.m. BST start in the UK. It’s a 2:30 p.m. ET or 11:30 a.m. PT kickoff in the US and Canada, and a 4:30 a.m. AEDT start in Australia in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane ended last season as the Bundesliga’s top scorer, having hit the back of the net on 26 occasions.

ESPN holds the broadcast rights for Bundesliga matches in the US, with this match set to be shown on ESPN 2. That means the game can be watched on the all new ESPN online platform, as well as its companion streaming service ESPN Plus.

Canadian viewers looking to watch German top-flight soccer can do so via DAZN, which will once again show Bundesliga games.
A DAZN subscription costs CA$30 a month or CA$200 a year. It’ll also give you access to Champions League, Europa League and EFL Championship soccer, plus Six Nations rugby and WTA tennis.
As well as dedicated apps for iOS and Android, there’s a wide range of support for set-top boxes and smart TVs.
