Couple’s intense fight causes partner to drive car off a cliff

A couple’s over-the-phone argument got so bad, one partner ended up purposely driving their car off a cliff, cops said.

The bizarre crash unfolded around 4:15 p.m. Thursday near in Fresno County near Sky Harbour Drive and Millerton Road, northeast of Table Mountain Casino, when a person intentionally drove off a cliff while arguing with their partner on the phone, according to ABC 30.

The two roads meet at a traffic circle leading to a cul-de-sac and dead end.

The driver was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known. A helicopter was spotted near Millerton Lake following the crash.

It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cliff dive.

The cliff crash happened just a few weeks after an allegedly reckless teenage driver blew through a stop sign and triggered a horrific crash that left two elderly women dead just a few miles away, also near Millerton Lake.

An 18-year-old Clovis woman driving a Toyota slammed into a Nissan driven by an 88-year-old man.

The Nissan was carrying three passengers, including an 88-year-old woman, while the teenage driver had three passengers in her Toyota — eight people in all were caught up in the violent wreck.

Yvonne Cheney, 88, of Auberry, who was riding in the Nissan, was killed in the crash. A second victim, 94-year-old Nellie Moreno of San Joaquin, was a passenger in the Toyota. She was rushed to a hospital but later died from her injuries.
