And you thought you had a bad day at work.
Shocking video captured the moment a massive jumbotron scoreboard slipped from its harness as workers installed it in a high school gymnasium and it shattered into pieces on the wooden basketball court below.
The giant machine was seen tumbling down after one of the cables holding it came loose as it was being hoisted to the ceiling at O’Fallon Township High School in southern Illinois, as part of a gym renovation, according to First Alert 4 news.
The footage, which has since gained traction on TikTok and other platforms, shows the workers dodging debris as the huge video board falls, hits the floor and breaks into pieces.
School officials said they will try to hold sporting events as best as they can until the damage is repaired.
“Athletic activities and events will continue with adjustments as needed,” the high school district’s superintendent, Dr. Beth Shackelford, told First Alert 4, adding, “and we are actively evaluating scheduling and facility options to minimize any disruptions.”
Nevco, the firm installing the jumbotron, told First Alert 4 that repairs will begin in two to three weeks. It wasn’t clear exactly what day the board fell.
O’Fallon High School is one of the largest in Illinois outside of the Chicago metro area, with over 2,500 students.
Nevco reportedly said that the school will not be on the hook for the repair costs, and they will pay for the damage to the floor and board.
