Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is now facing a probe by the House Committee on Ethics over accusations of sexual misconduct.

“The Committee … has begun an investigation and will gather additional information regarding the allegations that Representative Eric Swalwell violated the Code of Official Conduct or any law,” the panel announced Monday.

Among the accusations were claims that the lawmaker raped a woman while she was intoxicated and left her bruised and bleeding. That allegation has sparked a probe by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

Swalwell has since dropped his bid for California governor and is facing calls to resign or be expelled.
