A gunman who indiscriminately opened fire on passing cars in Houston, striking three people, including a woman and her daughter, was shot by responding police officers, authorities said.
The shooting unfolded at about 11 a.m., when officers responded to reports of someone firing at cars along Wayside Drive.
When they arrived, police found a man with a gun, the Houston Police Department said.
The officers commanded the man to drop the weapon.
At some point, three officers and a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety opened fire on the suspect.
The accused gunman was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital.
No officers were injured.
