Instagram Reels too slow for you? Now, you can watch them at twice the speed.
“This has been a highly requested feature from our community, and we hope being able to fast forward helps give you more control over your Reels experience,” a representative for Instagram, which is owned by Meta, said in a statement Thursday. “To use the feature, simply long press on the right or left edge of the screen, and the reel will play at 2x speed until you release.”

Video watchers may be already used to the double-speed feature. It was already available on various services, including TikTok, Netflix and YouTube, though not yet on YouTube Shorts, YouTube’s TikTok rival.
I tried to use the 2x speed feature on Instagram on my iPhone, but couldn’t get it to work as of Thursday afternoon.
“Everyone on IG should have access by the end of the day,” a spokesperson told me. “Oftentimes, our rollouts take 24 hours or so.”
Subscribers may also need to update their Instagram app to access the feature, the representative said.
