Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that Iran’s thwarted drone attack on Turkey would not trigger NATO’s Article 5.

“We are aware of that particular engagement, although there is no sense that it would trigger anything like Article 5,” he said, referring to the principle that an attack on one member of the Atlantic alliance is an attack on all members.

Turkey’s defense ministry claimed earlier Wednesday that NATO interceptors had shot down a ballistic missile heading from Iran into Ankara’s airspace.
