Jane Fonda recalled seeing beloved Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, looking “healthy and happy” at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night before they were knifed to death in their Los Angeles mansion.
The “Grace and Frankie” star said she is overwhelmed with grief, sharing a photo of the “When Harry Met Sally” filmmaker and Michele, one day after their heinous murders rocked Hollywood.
“Rob and Michele Reiner were wonderful, caring, smart, funny, generous people, always coming up with ideas for how to make the world better, kinda,” Fonda, 87, said in the heartfelt post, noting the slain couple were helping her launch the Committee for the First Amendment, a prominent free speech organization.
“I saw them the night before last looking healthy and happy. I am reeling with grief. Stunned.”
Nick Reiner, the couple’s troubled 32-year-old middle child, is accused of fatally stabbing the “A Few Good Men” director, 78, and his 70-year-old mother inside their Brentwood estate early Sunday.
The nepo brat, who had a tumultuous relationship with his famous father for years, got into a heated argument with his parents at O’Brien’s star-studded holiday bash Saturday night, sources told outlets.
Sources said Nick, who has long faced troubles with drug addiction, displayed erratic behavior that caught the attention of other guests at the party, and even got into a tiff with comedian Bill Hader.
He allegedly slashed both his parents’ throats early Sunday and ran off, leaving his sister, Romy, to discover the gruesome scene when she went to go check on her mom and dad after a massage therapist received no response at their gate, according to authorities and the New York Times.
Nick was arrested for the double slaying hours later roughly 15 miles away, police said.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and could face the death penalty if he’s convicted.
A dead-eyed Nick appeared in court for the first time Wednesday sporting shackles and a blue suicide smock, but his arraignment was ultimately pushed to Jan. 7.
He is currently being held without bail in a LA lockup.
