A maniac stabbed a sleeping subway rider in the head at least three times during Monday’s morning commute — sparking a brawl that splattered blood across the train, cops and sources said.
The 56-year-old victim was snoozing on board a southbound No. 1 train passing through the 145th Street station in Harlem around 6:10 a.m. when a 20-year-old brute randomly knifed him at least three times in the head, cops and sources said.
Officers from Transit District 3 – housed inside the station – stepped in when they noticed a commotion toward the back of the train, the sources said.
The knifing apparently sparked a brawl that spilled into a second car, with blood left behind in both cars, according to the sources.
The attacker was taken into custody at the scene, with charges still pending by the late morning, cops said.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he is listed in stable condition with puncture wounds and bleeding to the back of his head.
A knife was recovered at the scene.
