A medical center caught in the crosshairs of an internet meltdown caused by one of its employees who cussed out a Target worker for wearing a Charlie Kirk T-shirt said that it was overwhelmed by thousands of “profanity-laced” messages.
Mike Wiltermood, the president and CEO of California-based Enloe Health, said at a press conference Wednesday that the medical center had received more than 6,000 “profanity-laced” messages since the video went viral earlier in the day.
Wiltermood pleaded with the public to stop calling the center’s primary phone number, as the repeated calls “impeded our ability to serve patients and their families.”
In the viral clip that sparked the firestorm, a woman employed by Enloe Health asks an elderly Target worker why the “f–k” she is sporting a red shirt, which reads “Freedom” with Charlie Kirk’s name underneath. She also accuses the woman of supporting “a racist,” according to the video.
“Are you f–king stupid?” the unhinged customer hisses inside the California store, according to the video.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was gunned down at Utah Valley University in September while wearing a white version of the same shirt.
The employee hardly batted an eye at the irate woman’s accusations and politely replied, “That’s your opinion ma’am,” before walking away.
A Target spokesman told The Post via email Wednesday night that it always expects “everyone in our stores to treat one another with respect” and is focusing “on supporting our team.”
Wiltermood praised the Target worker for her own calm response and condemned his own employee’s “off-hours” behavior.
“As a human being, I’m sorry she went through that, and I admire her resilience,” Wiltermood said.
“This isn’t about politics. This is about how we treat each other, and decorum,” he added.
Wiltermood declined to share if the enraged Enloe staffer was fired and noted that it is against the company’s policy to divulge “comments or statements” about such personal matters.
The woman, whose name was not shared, was identified as an Enloe Health worker by online sleuths. Some suggested the woman’s flagrant impertinence may be worthy of formal charges, but the Chico Police Department told The Post that the actions captured on video “do not meet the threshold for criminal acts.”
The Target employee was informally identified as “Jeanie” in a GiveSendGo crowdfund, which is just $20,000 shy of its $200,000 goal.
Many donors to the fundraiser praised her candor.
“You seem like such a nice person unlike the POS who harassed you. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a great 2026!” one man, who left $50, wrote.
“Thank you for demonstrating politeness and tolerance are possible even with a crazy woman,” another user added.
The organizers of the crowdfund said that they hope to give Jeanie “whatever she needs,” ranging from a “much-needed vacation” to “retirement.”
