A horde of violent bike-riding teens viciously attacked a man in the middle of a Los Angeles street “in broad daylight” after he allegedly got into an argument with them, according to cops and a disturbing video.
The assault, consisting of “20-30 bicyclists” between the ages of 16 and 18 years old, started after the victim got out of his car to confront some of them after they “struck and kicked” his vehicle on Saturday in central LA, the Los Angeles Police Department shared in a press release Monday.
A startling video shared by investigators shows the teens ganging up on the man — relentlessly punching, kicking, and stomping the victim as he lay defenseless on the ground.
Other suspects then rode up, leaped off their bikes, and threw them off to the side in excitement to join the attack.
The teens — most of who were donning hoodies — then rode off after beating the man senselessly.
The victim is seen lying motionless on the ground before the video ends.
The rabid gang of teens only stopped beating on the defenseless man after “witnesses approached to intervene,” police shared.
The attack happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and Carrillo Drive in Wilshire, less than a mile from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and two miles east of Beverly Hills.
Police responded to the scene after receiving a call about an “assault with a deadly weapon” and found the victim.
Paramedics were called to the scene to treat the victim, who suffered “minor/visible injuries” after he was “overwhelmed” by the group of suspects.
He declined to be taken to the hospital, police said.
Police have not made any arrests regarding the violent “broad daylight” gang attack, the department said.
A woman close to the victim’s family described how badly the suspects beat the man.
“One eye was closed, he had a black eye. The jaw was swollen; he did not look good at all, which is really, really sad,” Natasha Espinal told NBC Los Angeles.
“It should not happen. It’s extremely sad for everyone to see. It’s scary.”
Espinal said she and the victim’s mother have been contacting neighbors in the area to see if they could identify or have any information on the teens.
Los Angeles Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, who represents District 5 of the city where Saturday’s attack happened, said “violence has no place in our city.”
“I know that this incident has shaken many in our community, and I want to assure you that we take these concerns very seriously. Violence has no place in our city, and those responsible must be held accountable,” she told the LA Times in a statement.
“My heart goes out to the young man who was assaulted and his family, and I’m relieved to hear that he is recovering.”
Yaroslavsky said that the “LAPD is actively investigating this incident,” and investigators have found no indication that “this was a hate crime,” but noted “any act of violence like this is unacceptable.”
“Anyone with information on the crime committed by the above suspects is urged to call Wilshire Area’s Detective Carlos, Serial No. 41244, at (213) 922-8229. During non-business hours, or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247),” the department said.
