As we inch closer to the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct event on April 2, more details about the company’s flagship gaming console’s launch are coming into focus. We don’t know much at all about new Switch games (aside from a brief peek at a new Mario Kart in the reveal trailer), but we do have more insight into timing of the release and the expected cost.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 unveiling in January didn’t provide much beyond the look of the new console. There were mentions of the backward compatible feature and of hands-on events for the public to try out the console, which will be happening all over the world.
Preorders aren’t officially open yet, nor is there a release date set, but information and rumors about the launch have trickled out since Nintendo’s announcements.

Here’s what you need to know about Switch 2 preorders.
Where can I preorder the Switch 2?
So far, Best Buy is the only retailer to confirm that it’ll have preorders for the Switch 2. There’s already a page dedicated to the Switch 2, and people who are interested can submit their email to get a notification of when preorders are available.
Other retailers likely to have Switch 2 preorders sometime in the near future are Amazon, Target and Walmart.
When can I preorder the Switch 2?
Nintendo hasn’t provided a date for preorders, but it’ll likely be after the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct event on April 2.
How much will the Switch 2 cost?
That’s another detail Nintendo has yet to announce. The original Switch launched for $299, but considering the Switch OLED currently costs $350, it’s unlikely the Switch 2 will cost less.
Some Nintendo analysts are now predicting a price point of $399 – $499 for the Nintendo Switch 2, according to a recent Bloomberg report. The analysts expect the Switch 2 chip itself to cost the company between $130 and $150.

Good luck getting your hands on one.
