NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch reached out to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and personally apologized after her brother ripped him as an “enemy” of Jewish people, according to the Democratic Socialist pol .
Benjamin Tisch — the Jewish younger brother of the Big Apple’s top cop — had publicly bashed the incoming mayor during a fiery charity dinner speech Wednesday night.
“The commissioner apologized to my team for those remarks,” Mamdani told reporters at an event Thursday. “I look forward to being a mayor for each and every New Yorker, including Jewish New Yorkers.”
The mayor-elect — who has refused to say Israel should exist as a Jewish state — insisted that the remarks wouldn’t affect his working relationship with his NYPD commish.
“My focus in my conversations with Commissioner Tisch is on delivering public safety and doing so in tandem with justice for New Yorkers across the five boroughs,” he said.
“The apology was one that she conveyed to the team. I appreciated it, and my focus is back on delivering.”
The mayor-elect’s comments come after Tisch’s brother, who is a top exec at the Loews Corporation, railed about the future of the city in the wake of Mamdani’s election victory.
Tisch’s brother had been presenting an award at the Met Council’s annual holiday dinner — a nonprofit that combats poverty in the Jewish community — when he took aim at the socialist.
Mamdani, for his part, has been a fierce critic of Israel.
He has even threatened to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he steps foot in the city amid the Israel-Hamas war.
Tisch’s apology comes soon after she accepted Mamdani’s offer to stay on as police commissioner under his administration.
