WASHINGTON — Well, that puts a wrinkle in things.
Social media went aflutter over a seemingly face-smoothed, beautified selfie Callista Gingrich posted to social media alongside her unedited husband, Newt.
Callista, 60, posted a smiling birthday-weekend selfie on social media Saturday alongside Newt, 82, in St. Moritz, at an Alpine resort town in Switzerland.
The jarring contrast between the noticeably glammed-up-looking Callista and her husband’s likely unfiltered, nature-embracing bare face in that photo prompted amusement from netizens.
President Trump’s ambassador to Switzerland has posted similar selfies in the past in which she appeared to make use of a filter while her husband seemingly went all natural.
“I love the way newt’s face is presented raw and unfiltered while hers is always processed,” one user chided.
“What if she actually just looks like that,” another user quipped.
“SOMEONE PLEASE STOP HER FROM EDITING PHOTOS,” influencer Caleb Hull vented.
“I love that she edits her face into oblivion but leaves his completely untouched,” Allie Voss, communications director for the American Conservation Coalition, mused on X.
“PS5 vs PS3,” another user joked.
Callista, who has served as ambassador since last October, had her birthday last Wednesday but celebrated it during a weekend getaway with her husband.
She previously served as the US Ambassador to the Vatican during the first Trump administration. Both Gingriches are Catholics, with Newt having converted in 2009 and Callista being a lifelong practitioner.
The duo has been married since 2000.
Trump announced his selection of Callista to serve as US ambassador to Switzerland shortly after his 2024 election victory.
“I am pleased to announce Callista L Gingrich will be our next United States Ambassador to Switzerland. Happily married to the Great Newt Gingrich, Callista previously served, with distinction, as my Ambassador to the Holy See,” the then-president-elect posted on his Truth Social platform at the time.
“During her tenure, Callista worked to advance and defend international religious freedom, combat human trafficking and provide humanitarian assistance around the World.”
Newt has long been a close Trump ally, having been a top veepstakes contender during the 2016 election cycle. He also ran for president unsuccessfully in 2012.
