Tucker Carlson bizarrely claimed the US would overthrow Nicolas Maduro in an effort bring gay marriage to Venezuela, according to video that resurfaced in the wake of Saturday’s successful capture of the dictator.

The conservative talk show host first made the risible claim in October 2025 that US military action in Venezuela was due to Maduro’s opposition to gay marriage.

“It’s possible we’re mad that he doesn’t allow gay marriage,” Carlson said in the video, as he mused about possible explanations the government would use to justify the overthrow of Venezuela’s hard-left president.

Carlson also described Venezuela as “one of the most conservative countries in North or South or Central America,” second only to Trump’s ally El Salvador.

“This clown never disappoints,” one user wrote.

“Tucker Carlson has completely lost the plot,” added a second.

“I can’t believe people listen to this nutcase,” wrote a third.

Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores made their first appearance in a US federal court in New York Monday after their capture during a daring mission after President Trump gave the final directive for the US to attack the South American nation.

The pair were charged with narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the United States. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
