A Florida woman smashed through a gate near President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, bizarrely claiming she thought it was a “car wash” — sparking a police chase that ended with her pit bull being shot dead after it bit an officer, according to officials.
Alexa Rae Scharf, 29, drove into a closed Secret Service checkpoint near the sprawling Palm Beach property Tuesday evening, parked her vehicle beside the screening tent, got out and turned on a hose, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS 12.
When a Secret Service agent there asked her who she was, Scharf strangely replied, “I’m here for the car wash,” according to the affidavit.
While the agent attempted to take a photo of her license plate to she then jumped back in the driver’s seat, ignored repeated commands to stop and drove toward the agent, forcing him to get out of the way, the affidavit stated.
Minutes later, police found the same SUV inside an oceanfront estate about a half-mile away, where a large entrance gate had been busted down.
Scharf was walking around, but got back inside the vehicle, the affidavit states.
She reversed toward a Palm Beach police captain and another officer before squeezing between police cruisers and speeding away with cops in pursuit.
The chase ended in a driveway but Scharf continued to refuse officers’ commands, according to the affidavit.
Police placed stop sticks beneath her tires and smashed the rear windshield and rear driver-side window, according to the charging documents.
As police were arresting Scharf, her pit bull jumped over her and bit an officer when they opened a door, Palm Beach police told CBS 12.
One cop opened fire and shot the dog. The dog was taken to an animal hospital but later died, police said.
The officer’s condition was not immediately clear.
The incident shut down the area for about three hours, according to CBS 12.
Scharf, of Loxahatchee, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, felony fleeing and resisting arrest.
She was released early Friday morning on a $16,000 bond, jail records show.
