Son of a beach!

The Big Apple’s gorgeous, swimsuit-worthy post-Memorial Day weekend forecast looks like a cruel joke after what’s expected to be a chilly and rainy holiday weekend, meteorologists said Thursday.

Sunny beach weather will grace the city a little too late Tuesday following a soggy summer kickoff weekend with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, said AccuWeather Vice President of Forecast Operations Dan DePodwin.

“It’s bookended by summer-like heat,” DePodwin said of the disappointing three-day weekend forecast.
“Saturday is a basically a washout. It’s the chilliest it gets this time of year.”

Friday is expected to be overcast with a high of 65 degrees — followed by a rainy Saturday with a high of 56 degrees, according to DePodwin.

“Saturday is a complete soaker,” he said. “It’s not a good day at all for outdoor plans.”

Mother Nature’s mean joke is forecast to continue into Sunday with more rain and a high of 60 degrees — but it could clear up by the afternoon, DePodwin said.

On Monday, Memorial Day itself will warm up slightly with a cloudy high of 70s degrees and a couple possible showers.

“Monday is likely the best day this weekend,” DePodwin said. “It will be better for barbecues than the beach.”

Once most folks return to work on Tuesday, however, the weather is forecast to heat up to a sunny high of nearly 80 degrees.

The patch of bad holiday weekend comes after a clear, dry stretch of summer-like heat earlier in the week.
